2017 Tech Trends<\/h2>\n

Before you know it, 2017 will be here. And with\u00a0each New Year\u00a0comes a\u00a0wealth of new technological\u00a0opportunities for events, associations, and more!<\/p>\n

We are still putting the final touches on our 2017 Tech Trends infographic as the end of 2016 gets nearer.<\/p>\n

However to tide you over, here is a sneak peek at\u00a03 of our new tech trends for 2017:<\/p>\n

1. Virtual and Augmented Reality<\/strong><\/h3>\n

In our 2016 event tech trends infographic<\/a>, we had virtual reality as a top trend. For 2017, we have added augmented reality (AR).<\/p>\n

The biggest reason for this addition was the release of Pokemon Go. \u00a0If you’re unfamiliar with the app, Pokemon Go is an AR mobile game. Released in July, the app\u00a0has\u00a0more downloads from Apple’s App Store<\/a> than any mobile game in history.<\/p>\n

As virtual and augmented reality technologies expand into the consumer space, their uses will be found across industries. Think virtual tours of travel locations and conference venues, creating art in a 3d space<\/a>, and detailed anatomical models in AR\u00a0for enhanced medical classes.<\/p>\n

Prototypes, physical models, and detailed illustrations are all extremely expensive to produce for lectures, seminars, conferences, etc., but AR apps can be accessed by all members via almost any device.<\/p>\n

2. Gamification<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Gamification is a trend we have seen grown in interest throughout 2016.\u00a0We’ve seen success when event professionals\u00a0add\u00a0mobile app games\u00a0to their events<\/a>, but gamification can go beyond that.<\/p>\n

In a recent survey by Talent LMS<\/a>, they found 79% of respondents\u00a0would be more productive if their university\/institution or work was more game-like.<\/p>\n

Consider adding badge levels to accompany your CAE study group testing to enhance learning. Or host a trivia game during your annual review session to reinforce key insights.<\/p>\n

3.\u00a0Big Data<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Although this is a new trend on our 2017 list, big data has been\u00a0around for a while now. However, it’s importance has recently seen significant growth.<\/p>\n

According to IBM<\/a>, we\u00a0create 2.5 quintillion bytes of data every single day. Even more so,\u00a090% of the data in the world has been created in the last two years alone.<\/p>\n

With access to an almost unlimited amount\u00a0of data, it is a daunting task to make sense of it. Ensure your organization’s data collection and reporting is not only consistent but makes sense with what your end goals are.<\/p>\n
